Ortiz:
Hospice Helps Heal

In Tampa, Florida, clients of LifePath Hospice share how hospice helped them cope. Nathaniel Brown, terminally ill, has to handle a deep family rift. The Ortiz family faces unresolved anger from their daughter's death by a drunken driver.

Story synopsis

A LifePath Hospice client, Nathaniel, terminally ill at the age of 53, has an ongoing rift with his brother after their mother died. Hospice chaplain Robert Glass helps Nathaniel deal with his emotional pain, and prays for forgiveness and reconciliation for the two brothers.

Hospice offers survivors and families a variety of aftercare activities to help them deal with the turbulent emotions of the grief process, such as the Ortiz family.

Ashley was a beautiful, 15-year-old cheerleader who made a poor choice—to accompany a friend of a friend who was being bullied by her drunken boyfriend. Three teens end up dead, and Ashley's mother, her stepdad, Michael (Sr.) stepbrother, Michael Jr, and brother Jason are left dealing with anger, broken dreams and new perspectives on death.

The Ortiz family shows the pain and rage stage of dealing with a wrongful death. They share pointedly about their pain and anger towards the driver. The family experiences a hospice Family Camp, which has begun to help them on their journey.
